Research:
Dr. Ogden's research interests lie in the areas of bioremediation and biotechnology, with an emphasis on transport and fermentation processes. In particular, she investigates the effects of heavy metals on biodegradation and develops treatment strategies to remediate wastes (solid and liquid) containing mixtures of organics and heavy metals. Recent waste streams studied include soil contaminated with explosives and barium. In addition, she is the Education Thrust Leader for the NSF/SRC Engineering Research Center for Environmentally Benign Semiconductor Manufacturing. Her research related to the ERC involves determining the feasibility of using microorganisms to remove organics and metals from water streams that will be recycled within a semiconductor plant. She also is investigating the formation and destruction of biofilms in ultra-pure water systems.
